Marci Bowers, MD
Pioneering Gender Confirmation Surgeon 


Dr. Bowers, a pelvic and gynecologic surgeon with more than 33 years of experience, is recognized as a pioneer in the field of Gender Affirming Surgery. She is the first surgeon with transgender history and the first woman to perform Gender Affirming Genital surgeries world wide. 


Dr. Bowers is the current WPATH President and serves on the Trevor Project Board of Directors having completed previous terms with GLAAD and the Transgender Law Center. Her gender diverse work has been highlighted by appearances on Oprah, CBS Sunday Morning, Discovery Health and the TLC reality series, “I am Jazz”. She was interviewed in 2021 by Leslie Stahl for the CBS News program 60 Minutes. Dr. Bowers is recognized as one of the 100 most influential LGBT people on the Guardian’s World Pride Power List and one of Huffington Post’s 50 Transgender Icons.

The ACC Board is pleased to welcome Karen Holmes as our Saturday Luncheon Speaker! Professionally, Holmes is an award winning public servant who works as a Federal Safety Officer with the US government. She is a strong advocate for the Transgender Community and speaks around the country to military, police, fire, medical and university communities. She is working to Build the Bridge between the Transgender Community and Law Enforcement Agencies. 

Karen is an International Board Member Transgender Veteran Support Group (TVSG) LGBTQ Resources. Also with TVSG, she is the President for Washington, DC Chapter, and the Vice President with the Maryland Chapter. Karen joined the Women Veterans United Committee, Inc. in 2020 as Director of Safety for the organization.
